History of Air Mail Delivery of mail by airplane and sanctioned by a Post Office (Petaluma, California) first occurred on Feb 17, 1911, when Fred Wiseman flew his own-design biplane the 18 miles from Petaluma to Santa Rosa to deliver three letters, 50 newspapers, and a sack of coffee.
